May Update

Irrigation water finally running as scheduled. The weather has settled down into Colorado Spring time weather rather than winter snow. Mother Nature has provided us with .75 inches of precipitation this month in addition to distribution of irrigation water.

We have experienced ditch rider changes this month and welcome Larry Feyerherm (ditch rider for the Middle lines) Larry can be reached at 371-4313 and Connie Johnson (ditch rider for the West side) Connie can be reached at 371-4312. Connie will be replacing Larry Degenhart who will be leaving us at the end of June. Larry has served 10 years with Beaver Park Water and we are really happy for him and his impending retirement.

The State Dam inspector requested that Brush Hollow trees and brush be cleared along the upstream and downstream groins within 25 ft. of the dam. The primary reason is to prevent damage to the embankment and allows for good routine visual inspection for seepage in critical area of abutment contacts. Due to the on-going irrigations; new ditch riders training processes and line repairs it is not feasible for the staff to accomplish this task.  Tom is coordinating with the Juniper Valley Fire Dept./Dept. of Corrections team to have the mitigation work done at Brush Hollow. The team consists of 18 staff members and 2 crew bosses. The work will include a controlled burn to eliminate the brush that is not easily accessible. Work could not begin until Brush Hollow was down to 87 feet. We are currently at that level and scheduling will take place as soon as they are available.
