The 2016 irrigation season began April 11th with
Brush Hollow Reservoir at 92 ft. and the creek was running at 25 c.f.s. The staff scheduled and started water
beginning the 12tth and all looked like a promising start, however Mother
Nature provided us with a wonderful surprise of rain and heavy wet snow. By the
end of Saturday April the 16th the decision was made to shut down
the newly started system to prevent flooding in the canals. Monday April 25th
the 2nd beginning of irrigation season will start. Hopefully we can
continue through this time. According to the AG Met sensor in Penrose we
received 2.31 inches of moisture with this spring storm.
This storm also prevented us from purchasing project water
from South Eastern Colorado Water Conservancy District. The project water would
have been used for payback on the annual 2250 water; saving BPWI $2700. Thank
you Mother Nature.
PLEASE VOTE! Attention to all Penrose residents, the Florence
Fire Protection District (includes Penrose) will be electing a new Board of
Directors on May 3rd. It is
very important that our community of Penrose have the representation it needs
to keep our volunteer fire station open and functioning. In order to do this we
need to make sure to elect a Board of Directors that will support our needs. Those
running for the office who have committed to our community are: William (Bill)
Simmons, James L. Carochi Sr. and Gus Vendetti. Please use your voice and
support our need to have this vital volunteer fire/rescue service right here in
Penrose. PLEASE VOTE!
