The last month of the 2013 year is almost gone. The year in
review has been a very interesting year for Beaver Park Water. We began the
year with no hope of being able to provide irrigation water to all the
shareholders. However we did start irrigations in May to those shareholders
that did not receive water in 2012. A schedule and map was developed to provide
shareholders where the water was for distribution. The map was posted with
flags on the outside bulletin board of the water office for shareholders to
view. On July 7th irrigation water was shut off from Brush Hollow, as the
reservoir had reached a level that we needed to maintain our ability to provide
Penrose Water District with domestic water. We were irrigating with water
supplied only from Beaver Creek. At that time we, we had to place two of our
ditch riders on lay off status. We had one ditch rider to cover irrigations on
the entire system. The beginning of August, we were blessed with significant
rain and due to the rains received in the Pikes Peak area, we had more water
than we could handle coming down Beaver Creek. Penrose experienced minor
flooding. At that time we brought back our ditch riders and resumed
irrigations, we were able to completed two irrigations to our shareholders. The
month of September also provided more rain to our area and again we received
minor flooding. The flooding received was actually from two creeks located on
the west side of Hwy 115, which are not part of our system. Due to the rains
from the Pikes Peak area, water continued to flow in Beaver Creek and we were
fortunate to send it to Brush Hollow Reservoir. By the end of October the water
level at the Reservoir measured 86 ft. In November the reservoir reading was 90
ft. This level has not been reached and maintained for several years. This will
be a benefit when spring arrives and we begin the 2014 irrigation season.
We have a firm date and place for our 2014 Shareholders
Annual Meeting. The meeting will be held Saturday, February 22nd at
1:00 pm at the Penrose Elementary School. Each shareholder will be sent
complete information regarding the meeting agenda, directly to their address on
file. This year there will be two Board of Director positions that will be open
for replacement or re-election. It is
very important that each shareholder either attend or designate a proxy. A
quorum of 50% plus 1 share of the total number of shares must be reached for a
meeting to be held. IF A QUORUM IS NOT REACHED, THE SHARES NOT REPRESENTED AT
THE MEETING WILL BE ASSESSED A FEE OF $5.00 PER SHARE. PLEASE PLACE THIS DATE
ON YOUR CALENDARS NOW!
It is equally important for shareholders to pay delinquent
assessments, any shareholder that is two years delinquent maybe in jeopardy of
losing their shares. At this time there is $25,000 of delinquent assessments.
Assessments pay for maintaining the system, daily operations, and paying loans
that were incurred over the course of 36 years that purchased the Beaver Park
Water System, extensive repairs at Brush Hollow Reservoir and line repairs
needed to keep the system operational.
The staff at Beaver Park Water, Inc. wishes all shareholders
and their families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We are looking
forward to working with our shareholders in 2014.
