May provided us with 2 ½
inches of beautiful moisture from rain showers…….and temperatures for the month
were high 60’s and 79’s with couple of 80-degree days.
Very
important message to all shareholders!!! The ditch riders are reporting
that the water canals are filled with grass clippings. This plugs up screens,
valves and irrigation pipe. Please, please do not put clippings in the
canals. If you must mow around the canal either use a bag to catch the
clippings or aim the chute away from the canal AND ABOVE ALL DO NOT EMPTY THE
GRASS CLIPPINGS in the canal!!!! There are some individuals that are not
shareholders that live along the canal, please make sure to share this
information.
Irrigations are going well. We have completed first
irrigations for approximately 60 % of the shareholders. 2nds will be
starting soon to follow. A few shareholders are completing plowing and planting
their fields with crops that must be planted later in May. The new tablets that
the ditch riders are using this year to record irrigations have provided a
more- timely view of where the water has been and where it is scheduled to go
next. There are a few shareholders that we have no contact information or their
numbers have changed. If you do not receive a call from your ditch rider to
schedule water and the water is in your location, please contact the Superintendent
at 719-371-4312.
School is OUT for the summer, please be mindful when
driving through Penrose and watch for the children on bikes and skate boards,
they do not watch for themselves as they should.
It’s more
than likely we can dress for summer finally, but carry a rain coat for
occasional rain.
