The month started out with temperatures in the 90’s and with a couple of cold fronts that passed through our temperatures fell back into the 80’s for the last month of Summer. We were pleasantly surprised with more than 1.50 inches of moisture that was recorded on the AG Met sensor. Not typical for September to receive measurable rain, but we will take what we can get.
Third rotation of irrigations are just about completed and
believe it or not …we actually can begin a fourth irrigation for those
shareholders who are available to take the water. Due to the all the rain we
have received this year, Penrose is experiencing a high-water table from the
saturation of the ground and when irrigations are running this causes water to
seep up and run throughout Penrose and has been reported all the way on South L
St to Holcim. This ground water is a natural drainage and not part of Beaver
Park Water’s irrigation system and we are unable to manage it. Therefore; we
are watching all irrigations and asking shareholders to please notify us as
soon as they see tail water leaving their fields. The tail water adds to the
natural drainage and has caused flooding in areas. This year it may not take as
long to water your field as it has in the past several years due to this saturation.
We all need to work together to manage the water. Please note, our system does
not work like a faucet, when you request your water to be turned off before it’s
scheduled time, the ditch rider must find a place for the water to go before
they can turn it off. AND they are not likely to find someone at 8:00 pm to
take the water. Please plan ahead, call the ditch rider at the earliest sign of
your field not holding water. Please also keep in mind that unless it is an
absolute water emergency, the ditch riders will not go out after dark for
various safety reasons.
October is coming up quickly and the Penrose Apple Day
Parade is scheduled for Saturday the 7th of October. For those newer
to the community, please be aware that Broadway will be closed off most of the
day beginning around 10:00 am. Make sure to attend the parade as you don’t want
to miss the Floats made by the classes from the Penrose Elementary School. This
is Penrose’s time to celebrate with many activities planned at the Penrose Park
and a on Broadway there will be food vendors as well as vendors selling a
variety of items.
Pray for rain or snow (time to carry around your snow boots
and a coat due to the unexpected weather changes)
