May 2022 update

Up until Friday the 20th and 21st of May we were experiencing the same dry and windy conditions we have had for the past several months. However, Oh My!  did mother nature come through with the wettest snow we have seen in a few years. Many of us received 8-10 inches of snow. Along with the snow of course, we had major power outages and many broken tree limbs, but the major consensus was “we need the moisture”.  The Penrose AG Met Sensor only reported receiving a total of .63 inches of moisture with the snow storm. Followed by the rain storms, the Sensor shows a total of 1.09 inches of precipitation for the month of May. The creek increased flow up to 15 c.f.s. although the amount initially decreased, following the rain the creek increased up to 20 c.f.s. We are taking every advantage of the increase, excess water is going to the reservoir and the ditch riders are continuing to deliver water. The clouds parted slightly and revealed that Pikes Peak is beautifully blanketed in snow. This may lead to a second snow melt this year. Our original expectations for the irrigation season have gained some positive possibilities.

Pray for continued rain…and carry an umbrella!
