September 2021 Update

We are now officially are in the Fall Season with Apple Day scheduled for October 2nd.  Apple Day is a Penrose tradition that has been celebrated for over 86 years. The celebration includes a children’s parade, followed by a community parade, music, apple pie contest, games, a variety of vendors and plenty of choices of food.

The good news for shareholders, second irrigations were completed and third irrigations have been started or completed and are continuing throughout the system. Unfortunately, we are approaching the discontinued use of water in Brush Hollow that supplies irrigation water through the lower ditch. The Ditch Riders will continue delivering water based upon availability of volume in the creek. After the lower ditch is no longer available, all irrigation water will be transferred down from the upper canal.

Much like August; the Penrose area has experienced hot and dry conditions over the past several weeks. According to the AG met sensor located in Penrose, we have received .49 of precipitation. This occurred in the first few days of September. Day time temperatures have been in the 80 and 90’s with night time temperatures steadily dropping down to the 40-50’s. Additionally, the Sun is setting earlier in the evening.

Beaver Park Water, Inc. welcomes our newest ditch rider, David Leeson.  David currently is learning the East Lines with Andy. Next water season, David will be the designated ditch rider for this area, as Andy has asked to be transferred to the West Lines.  David has an advantage as he was born and raised in Penrose and familiar with our complex system. With the delivery training and introductions this year, we are hopeful that next season our shareholders should experience a smooth transition.

Mark your calendars – Colorado Parks and Wildlife are sponsoring a Clean-up Day at Brush Hollow Reservoir on 10/23/21 (weather permitting). Those wishing to volunteer your time, meeting place is at the Boat Ramp at 9:00 am. C.P.W. is furnishing all supplies. You do not need to possess a Colorado Fishing License to participate. Any and all assistance will greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

With Fall season upon us, pray for rain or snow!
