June 2020 Update

The month of June only brought us what we feared the most, lack of rain to our area and the extreme drought conditions in Colorado slowly creeping Northward. Due to the drop in the creek flow it became necessary to access our 172 Acre Feet of water from Skaguay reservoir. The transfer down the creek provided us with approximately 8 c.f.s. to work with. Every effort was made in attempts at providing each shareholder with one irrigation. However, we fell short in this accomplishment and will continue irrigating as long as the creek flow will allow us to. Additionally, it was essential to close the gate at Brush Hollow Reservoir that provides irrigation water to the lower ditch. Any future irrigations will be from water in the upper ditch. Many irrigations can still be accomplished as we are able to transfer water down some of our lines. It was also necessary to suspend all pumping from the canals.

Unfortunately, these choices were made simply due to the lack of water. All drought years negatively impact everyone in the system regardless if they 1 or 50 shares. Historically our area receives an average of 2.2 inches of precipitation in the month of July. Unless the drought overrides history, this will be very much welcomed. The AG met sensor located here in Penrose has only recorded .37 inches of precipitation received to date for the month of June.

Carl Angerman, the ditch rider that was responsible for deliveries on the West Side is no longer with BPWI as his last day of employment was June 22nd. Connie Johnson, Superintendent will be scheduling and delivering irrigations. She can be reached at 371-4312. Due to our current lack of water, we will not be replacing his position at this time. However, late this fall or early next year we will be actively seeking a replacement. If you or if you know someone that would be interested, please have them send a message to Connie via email Cjohnson@beaverparkwater.net and express your interest. A formal job opening will be announced and posted on the office board as well as our face book page when it becomes necessary to do so.

Just a reminder, Beaver Park Water’s office access remains restricted. The sign in the window does say closed however, the office staff is here Monday-Friday 7:30am – 4:00pm. We will continue to follow the State and County guideline protocols for COVID-19. All assessment transactions may be made via mail or use the drop box in our door. Please call the office at 372-3664 for other business matters.  All business matters have been effectively conducted on the phone or by appointment.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Butch and Kathy Miller in the loss of their son, Johnny.
