September 2026

The month began with temperatures in the 90’s and high 80’s. The Middle of the month temperatures began to drop into the high 70’s and the end of the month the 60’s. This is certainly a change as well as we received almost an inch of rain. However, if forecasts are correct, we stand a chance to receive 1.50 inches of rain starting 9/30/26.

In efforts to avoid flooding in the lower canal, it was decided to shut off the lake at this time as the rain is anticipated to cause flooding according to the National Weather Service that issued a weather alert for Eastern Fremont County. Our canal typically receives flood water and debris from Bear Creek that empties directly into our lower canal. Transferring water down from the upper ditch will allow current shareholders to continue their scheduled water. The west side deliveries will have a lapse in scheduled water for a day or two. After the flood water recedes, we can resume deliveries from the lake, however not for long as we are not able to go below 68 on the staff gage at Brush Hollow and we are almost there now.

CONGATULATIONS TO CONNIE, OUR SUPERINTENDENT FOR HER MARRIAGE TO CHRIS BROCHU ON SEPTEMBER 14TH. Her formal name change will be forthcoming as driver’s license and social security card changes are in process at this time. Connie Brochu will be the change. Make any necessary changes to your phone address book.

Thanks to Steve Kastner, Beaver Park Water’s engineer. Beaver Park Water was awarded a Water Plan Grant from Colorado Water Conservation Board for Mitigation and Enlarging Brush Hollow. Steve’s undying dedication to this project is GREATLY APPREICATED!

Penrose is celebrating our Annual Apple Day on Saturday October 3rd. Please make sure you join in the festivities.

October’s month doesn’t indicate any severe weather at this time. However, it is fall and we are in Colorado so you should always prepare for winter at any time. At least carry a coat and snow boots just in case the weather decides to provide us with the white stuff.
