October was interesting as irrigations continued into 3rd
irrigations with 18.50 c.f.s. creek levels, but only for two days and then
Skaguay shut the gate down for 12 days only sending down 4.8 c.f.s. to the
creek. This very much was a game changer to the Superintendent and the ditch
riders as schedules had to be re-done and only a few shareholders were able to
receive irrigations from the upper canal. Due to the gate at Skaguay being shut
down, Skaguay’s level rose and finally they released the stored water to us at
a rate of 14.50 c.f.s. Again, schedules changed and this time more irrigations
could be delivered. We have continued irrigations from the reservoir and
provided irrigations from the lower canal.
October was relatively mild in temperatures ranging 60’s and
70’s during the daytime and dropping down below 32 degrees at night. The AG met
sensor did not record any precipitation for the month.
We will be winding down next month as irrigation season will
be officially over on the 15th of November and Skaguay is certain to
reduce it’s release to us soon. The ditch riders will continue with irrigations
depending on the creek level until the 15th. Any water we receive down the
creek after the 15th will be for Penrose Water District’s use and storage for
Brush Hollow.
This is the time to Pray for Snow! We really could use a
snowy winter. Get out the snow shovels and snow boots!
