The month of
September was hot and dry month with the high temperature reaching 95 and only
receiving .34 in of precipitation. We have been fortunate to continue
irrigations and provide many shareholders with three irrigations this season. However,
after Skaguay made their adjustments we are only receiving 2.31 c.f.s. down the creek which doesn’t make irrigations
easy to continue and provide water to Penrose Water District. Irrigations from
the Reservoir have discontinued as the lower ditch has been closed. The water
in the reservoir is only enough to provide for the Colorado Parks and Wildlife
fish pool, Penrose Water District’s 500 AF storage and water contracted to
provide PWD with domestic water.
Irrigations will continue from the upper ditch and or transfers for as
long as possible. We currently are not in priority to store water in the lake
and must use what we have. It is possible that we will be finishing irrigations
one shareholder at a time throughout the entire system.
We did have some great news for Beaver Park Water, the State approved additional grant money for us to continue removal and replacement of the lining in the upper canal. We are thankful to our Engineer, Steve Kastner for all the hard work he has put into this project for our benefit.
As irrigations are now minimal, the ditch riders will begin to mow and work on all the other repairs that have been put on hold during the irrigation season.
Don’t forget that our Annual Apple Day festivities are coming soon… October 5th Penrose will be celebrating it’s 85th Apple Day Anniversary. The morning begins with pancake breakfast at the Volunteer Fire Station, VFW is serving breakfast burritos. Penrose Elementary has a fun run at 7:15 am. Parade starts at 10:30 am. Broadway will be filled with vendors booths to satisfy everyone. Penrose Park has scheduled events all day with Fireworks at Dusk. This is a great day to celebrate Penrose.
