July Update

The rain provided a wonderful surprise for us this month. According to the AG Met sensor located in Penrose we have received 2.71 inches of precipitation to date with more rain predicted for the balance of this week. Saturday the 27th a wall of rain came through Penrose with parts of our area receiving 1-1.25 inches of rain. This brings a total of precipitation for July well over 3 inches. On the other side of things, the creek flow ran low most of the month and Brush Hollow’s readings dropped 4 feet since the beginning of the month. However, we did experience a crazy weather event on the 21st where the creek flooded and was running over 600 cfs. Due to the extreme water content, damage consisted of uprooting trees, taking out CPW’s diversions at their irrigating sites; walk over bridges put in by home owners on the North side of our diversion were all taken out by the swift running water. Additionally it appears that the telemetry has been damaged up by the cemetery which provides us information on what is coming down the creek. Due to the extreme debris the diversion was spilling over and was not allowing any of the water to travel into our system. Connie and the staff made the muddy and slick trip to the diversion and began adjusting the diversion’s gate which unblocked the flow of water and stopped the spilling. Immediately they checked out the 42inch line that brings the water into Penrose. Not finding anything unusual the ditch riders resumed the scheduled irrigations and made appropriate time changes as necessary. Due to the magnitude of the situation, we dodged a bullet on this one.

Currently work is being done on line LDA (west side delivery) that had a leak develop in the line during a delivery. The line was dug up and the old clay was replaced with new PVC pipe. Repair was completed, however when water was reintroduced to the line, a leak started at the newly replaced joint. The connecting end clay to PVC was the problem. We are now trying a new connector to the market that hopefully will be the answer. Once this line is completed, another west side line needs to be worked on as it is unable to deliver water to several shareholders. As always, the staff is very busy delivering water or working on repairs or emergency flooding issues.  Under Connie’s leadership the staff has done a great job keeping it all running as best as possible, we are thankful for Connie’s dedication to Beaver Park Water.

Reminder to all Shareholders – Assessments must be paid in full by August 1, 2019. Shareholders not in good standing with Beaver Park Water will not be eligible to receive irrigation water. Please keep in mind, it is entirely possible depending on the creek flow and reservoir level, we may not be able to complete 2nd irrigations. We certainly hope not but it is possible.

Keep Good thoughts…..I’d say pray for rain…but….be careful with that…..
