May Update

The month of May has provided many surprises. The most exciting news is we have received one and half inches of moisture in the form of rain/snow mix. Penrose is always on board with Mother Nature providing us with rain any time during the growing season.
However the other news is not good news. All month the creek has fluctuated between a high of 15 cfs at the L St. weir and a low of 6 cfs occurring on 5/17/19 when all upper ditch irrigations were stopped. In order to effectively irrigate shareholders receiving water from the upper ditch, we need to have at least 15 cfs consistently in the upper canal. This would allow for 2 cfs to be used to fill Penrose Water District Ponds, allow for multiple heads of water to be used for irrigation and the balance to refill Brush Hollow.  The amount of water we are using from Brush Hollow in providing irrigations has reduced the level to 75.9 ft. When the level of the reservoir reaches 71 ft., we will have no choice but to suspend irrigations. Due to the wonderful Colorado spring storm of 5/20-5/21 we currently are at 19 cfs at the L Street weir which will allow more irrigations to be processed from the upper ditch. We do not know how long this will last, but will make every effort to utilize the water to benefit as many shareholders as possible.
The new ditch riders are becoming more comfortable in learning the lines and delivery processes. A big thank you to all the shareholders that have been so helpful in their success! As a reminder Carl Angerman is the ditch rider on the West Side Deliveries 371-4311 and Jonie Grisenti is the ditch rider for the Middle Line Deliveries 371-4313 and Andy McMinn is the ditch rider for the East Side Deliveries 371-4310. In addition Connie Johnson is the Superintendent and can be reached at 371-4312.
