2025 was a very interesting year. The following is a
summary of the year.
January started the year with cold and snow throughout
Penrose. Preparation for the annual shareholder meeting in February was
underway. February the Annual Shareholders meeting was held on 2/22/25 with 63%
participation either in person or via proxy. Charlie Newlon retained his Board
seat with Steve Smith winning the vote for the open position. March was warm
and dry. Repairs and ditch cleaning was completed. April gave us the ability to
start irrigation water early. Weather was mostly warm and dry until a Spring
snow storm in the later half of April. May provided us with much needed 2 ½
inches of rain, this created issues with irrigation canals filled with grass
clippings after it dried out. Grass and other debris should never be put into
the irrigation water canals. 1st irrigations were almost completed
with seconds following after completion. The ditch riders were provided with
tablets to record irrigations for a more- timely view of where the water is.
June followed suit with May providing the area with 2 inches of rain. After the
rain dried, many fields were in the process of 1st cuttings. As
always, we have shareholders running irrigation water off their fields unto the
road. This is not only a Beaver Park Water problem but it is a County and State
issue that we have to account for and each shareholder could be held
responsible for any damage caused by their neglect. July was hot and dry most
of the month. Rain was falling north of us creating the creek to flow at 40 c.f.s.
Irrigation water has been plentiful for this year. Second irrigations are
almost completed with thirds following shortly behind. August delivered us
heavy rain throughout the region primarily north west of Penrose causing
flooding down the canals. September provided a mixture of summer and fall
temperatures. Water in the creek remained high. Third irrigations were ending
with some starting forth irrigations. Unfortunately, we lost one of our Board
Members, Steve Smith due to a sudden death. The Board appointed an interim
board member, Steve Parr until the annual shareholders where he could run for
the balance of the 2 -year term. We also lost a previous ditch rider, Larry
Degenhart. Larry worked the West Side as a ditch rider for over ten years.
October was warm and dry with the creek still running at 15 c.f.s. Some
shareholders have elected to continue irrigating while others are done for the
season. November was mostly dry. Due to a resignation, we do have an opening
for a ditch rider. December was warm for the month with no snow anticipated for
the holidays. Sadly, we lost our Board President that had been a board member
for almost 40 years. Sonny Daniels was born and raised in Penrose. He led the
Board with a strong conviction to preserve Beaver Park Water and was an
advocate for all shareholders. His knowledge of our system is irreplaceable. He
will be truly missed.
