January Update
January has been a very busy month for Tom and the ditch
riders. For those who were not aware, the upper canal was shut off in the
middle of November to allow for some major work on the upper canal. Wilson
Construction removed and replaced culverts at the Bear Creek Crossing and KP
Creek Crossings on the upper ditch. The replacement culvert was with a 48 inch
pipe and the crossings were redesigned to enable the water to flow smoothly
down the canal. The cost for the work done at the crossings was primarily paid
with monies that Beaver Park Water was granted from Colorado Springs Utilities
SDS program. In addition to the crossings, linings that were damaged and
leaking were replaced in several areas that were considered to be the worst at
this time. Hopefully as time progresses, we will be able to continue to replace
the linings as they deteriorate. On January 22nd the water was
turned into the upper canal. Tom and the
ditch riders provided labor for removing cement and hauling dirt. Using our own
equipment and labor helped keep costs down and allowed Wilson Construction to
concentrate on other phases of the project.
