June Update

June was a challenging month for distribution of water from Beaver Creek. Due to significant rains in May and Snowpack melt. Beaver Creek was running at 300 c.f.s. or more all month. Wow…how exciting to get that much water. It would be if we were not limited to physically only being able to receive 35 c.f.s in the upper ditch and nowhere to go with it as Brush Hollow is at capacity. Daily adjustments were made at the diversion to only take what actually could be used at the water plant and irrigation water that was being distributed. There actually were days no one in the system wanted irrigation water. With all those factors in play, we had no choice but to spill hundreds of c.f.s. per day, and continued to do so throughout the month of June. With the drought still fresh in our minds, it is difficult to see any amount of water spilled at any time.

Temperatures ranged from a high of 92 to low of 47, as reported on the AGMET sensor in Penrose. Total recorded moisture for the month was .85/inch. As you all know, rain amounts do vary throughout Penrose, many have reported over one inch of rain for the month at their locations. The ditch riders have completed the first round of irrigations and are beginning to start seconds in their designated areas. Most shareholders fields have been cut and baled. This will make the second irrigations go more smoothly than the first.  Lines that have needed immediate repairs have been completed. Some major repairs will be done after irrigation season. This should not affect irrigation deliveries. If you are experiencing problems with your delivery, please contact the superintendent for evaluation of your concern. As a reminder for those shareholders who chose to pay their assessments in two parts, the second half is due by August 1st. Invoices will be mailed out the first part of July to those shareholders with balances due. Any outstanding balances after August 1st will not receive irrigation water until account is paid in full. Please remember if a balance is due the ditch riders will not put you on the schedule to receive water, it is your responsibility to remember to pay the balance due.
