April Update
The old saying “April Showers bring May Flowers” was a
reality in Penrose. The AG Met sensor reported that Penrose received a total of
2.58 inches of water for the month of April. The only negative aspect of
receiving all this wonderful rain, it has not permitted the completion of
plowing and planting of several fields throughout Penrose.
As discussed at the Shareholders annual meeting in February
we have received our payback amount from the State for 2250 payback. We are
obligated to pay back a total 194 acre feet based upon our storage in Brush
Hollow Reservoir from November 15, 2014-March 15, 2015. Due to the recent rains
received; Beaver Creek is running at 58 c.f.s. (which is about double of what
we normally get this time of year). In efforts to take advantage of this, we began
paying back the water owed on April 28th from the Diversion. This
will continue until May 7th. This does not interfere with our supply
to Penrose Water District, current irrigations or water filling the Reservoir.
We did experience a drop in volume on the lower ditch for a few days; however
irrigations are running as scheduled. If you are one of those shareholders
delayed in plowing or planting, please contact your ditch rider and let them
know when you will be ready for irrigation, this will help them plan their
distribution.
Many may have noticed work being done on the system in
several places. Typically we would wait until completion of the irrigation
season however due to the type of damage; repairs must be performed in order
for irrigations to be continued on those lines. Please be patient if you were
expecting to receive water, we are making every effort to complete the repairs
as quickly as possible.
For those shareholders that have not paid at least ½ of
their assessments due, an additional 18% interest will be added to your open
balance. Statements will be sent out the first part of May.
