Beginning the 6th day of May the creek flow
provided enough water to not only support Penrose Water District with domestic
water, we were able to begin irrigations to those shareholders that did not
receive water last year. If the creek flow continues, irrigations should be completed
around the middle of June. At that time we will evaluate the possibility of
scheduling more irrigations. All water being used is strictly from the creek,
leaving Brush Hollow Reservoir water storage untouched. With temperatures
rising into the 80’s, not only will Penrose Water District water usage rise,
snow pack will diminish thus reducing the water availability. If creek levels
fall below 8cfs we will not be able to provide irrigation water. Our area
continues to be impacted by the drought, without significant rain fall we will
be repeating the cycle we experienced last year.
Reminder to all shareholders, your account must be in
good standing to be considered for water. Those shareholders that have not paid
a minimum of half their 2013 assessments will be subject to incurring interest
on the unpaid balance and not be eligible for irrigation water. Statements will
be sent out the first of July as all balances are due by August 1st.
As a reminder, assessments pay for the
operational costs to keep the system in good working order, payments on loans
for original purchase and repairs on Brush Hollow and the 42inch line.
The Colorado Ag Met monitor located at L Street and 13th
Street revealed that Penrose received .79 inches of moisture the first half of
May. However, the past two weeks we have not received any measurable moisture.
PRAY for RAIN!
