The month of August has been another hot and dry month. We are thankful for the rains that we have received in the Pikes Peak region over the past few weeks. The water from Beaver Creek has allowed us to meet our commitments to Penrose Water District without releasing additional water from Brush Hollow Reservoir. On Friday August 24th, the skies opened up for Penrose, we had a wonderful down pour which provided much needed rain. The lower ditch experienced a full ditch for a short period of time as water from Bear Creek flooded the canal. Unfortunately it didn’t last long but it was a sight to see. Due to the flash flooding down the canal, the ditch riders spent several days removing debris from ditches and screens.

Mowing operations are just about completed on the State Land to Brush Hollow. The ditch riders have rotated operating the equipment to get the most use of the rental excavator.

Material for the K Street transfer project arrived and our engineer finalized the project specification packets that will go out to contractors for bidding the project. Once bids are received and a selection is made, the project is anticipated to begin this fall. This project increases the line to a 12 inch pipe which will provide up to 3 times more water to be transferred to the lower ditch during the irrigation process.
