August was very hot and dry most of the month. However, the weather reports indicate that last week of August is going to be cooler with chance of rain for several days. We did have a one late afternoon thunder storm that came through Penrose the third week of August and depending on where you were at, it delivered heavy rain for approximately 45 minutes. Some areas did not receive anything. The AG met sensor only reported they received .15 of an inch that afternoon. The rain was primarily North West of Penrose and Bear Creek’s water rushed down our lower canal and overflowed in several places. The Superintendent and the ditch riders were out until 7:00 p.m. working on cleaning screens and shutting off transfers until the water in the canal receded.
Water
delivered down the creek went from 50 c.f.s. at the first of August down to 20
c.f.s. on August 21st. The
ditch riders are delivering 3rd irrigations at this time and with
few exceptions on certain lines, they are almost completed. If the water
maintains, we can foresee 4th irrigations this year!
Reminder
that all assessments were due by 8/1/25. Any outstanding balances are
considered delinquent. Those individuals that are two years in arrears were
sent letters reminding them that if not paid they are in jeopardy of losing
their water shares at the 2026 annual meeting. Post cards were sent out to all
shareholders with assessment balances this week. Any shareholder that is not in
good standing will not receive irrigation water. It is not the responsibility
of the ditch riders to remind you of your delinquency.
