July has been HOT! Temperatures have been mostly in the mid-80’s – mid-90’s. Precipitation for July has been recorded at AG Met Sensor in Penrose almost ¾ of an inch for the month. Our typical monsoon rain for July hasn’t happened in our area, however it has rained significantly north of us so the creek is running around 40 CFS. We have a lot of water for irrigations at this time. Second irrigations are almost completed and Third irrigations are taking place at this time.
It is
very important to watch your water on your fields and keep it on your own
property. We have had tail water that travels throughout Penrose and has caused
flooding of driveways, ponding on others property and water running down the
Roads. This is not acceptable. The County has been notified each time this
happens. It is important for everyone to know that the ditches placed by the
County are not intended for tail water, they are put there as drainage due to
natural causes NOT waste water. Please evaluate your irrigation practices and
move your water more often to keep the water on your property. Wasting water is NOT okay. It means that
others may not have water when it’s their time to irrigate. As a mutual ditch company,
we need to be mindful of all the other shareholders that may suffer from
someone not being mindful of their irrigations.
Additionally,
it is Not okay to shut or open gates at the delivery boxes. Should you have an
issue with a delivery you must contact your ditch rider. If you are unable to
reach them, contact the Superintendent and express your concerns with her.
Weather
will continue to be hot as usual in August, but you never know when rain may
come so always take an umbrella!
