The 2023 irrigation season formally came to an end on 11/14/23. Most Shareholders were able to receive three irrigations year with some receiving a fourth due to the continued volume of water received down the creek and our status of out of priority to store water. Many chose not to receive water after their third irrigations and put their pipes away for the season. All in all; it was a very successful year primarily due to the abundance of rain received in our area, a total of 15 inches saturated the ground and many hay fields produced two or three cuttings this year. The only negative impact was due to the saturation, ground water began to surface and properties had water that was not from irrigations but from the ground. This hasn’t happened for over 20 years. Individuals that have lived in Penrose back then remember this happening every year until we experienced the drought and the water levels dropped. Overall, we must learn to roll with what we are given, we had to adjust to the drought and this year we had to learn to adjust to the ground water.
The weather in November started out warm and dry with high
temperatures in the upper 70’s but winter weather did make an appearance the
day after Thanksgiving, providing snow and temperatures dropped to the 20’s
with night time temperatures dropping to single digits. Unfortunately, this did
not provide us with precipitation as the AG Met sensor only recorded .17 of an
inch for the month.
The new automated diversion gate will be installed early
December, however preparation to install must be completed prior to
installation. The current gate must be removed and the over hang of cement must
be cut off and removed so the railing to the new gate can be attached.
Please note that Beaver Park Water’s Board of Directors will
have a Board position opening as Jack Tyler is retiring after 20 years. Board
