October 2023 Updates

October has been an extension of summer with a few days of fall like weather. Mostly 75-80 degree days with a few days of 50 degree days and no precipitation at all. There are weather reports that we may get some winter like weather the last weekend of the month, however it may not prove to be much in precipitation.

Our Superintendent called for our 172-acre feet from Skaguay to finish up 3rd irrigations and some areas received 4th irrigations this season. We have not been in priority to store water therefore we must use the water. Current reading at the Brush Hollow Reservoir is 78.80 feet. This leaves about 5 feet more we should use before we close down the lower canal for the year. Winter storage does not go into effect until November 15th and we currently are receiving 9.25 c.f.s. at the L Street weir. Unless Skaguay closes down their releases to Beaver Creek, we will continue to distribute irrigation as long as we have water we must use.

Halloween weekend is coming with a weather forecast of possible snow…this would be our first of the winter season.  However; the cold front should only last for the weekend and temperatures will bounce back to 50’s and 60’s in the following week. Measurable snow is anticipated in the northern mountain areas of the State.

Enjoy your Halloween festivities and make sure bring a coat and mittens just in case. We do need some precipitation, so pray for snow.
