We have
completed another irrigation year. Finalizing the last irrigations, the middle
of November. We began irrigations with Brush Hollow levels at 80 ft, 10 feet
lower than the previous year at the same time. This was primarily due to the
lack of water in the upper canal over the winter months. This along with the
low creek readings and little snow melt provided a less than perfect beginning.
The slow start was also impacted by two new ditch riders to the system. And if
all that wasn’t enough to contend with, we survived several lines that had to
be replaced and a flash flood that caused problems at our diversion site. However,
Connie and the ditch riders persevered and delivered at least two irrigations
to our shareholders and some shareholders received three irrigations late
September, October and into November.
The staff
has continued mowing the upper ditch areas when possible and have almost
completed the screen coverings on the delivery boxes through out the system. We
have been receiving a mixed bag of temperatures in Penrose, with the high of 77
degrees and the low of 10 degrees recorded by the AG Met sensor located in
Penrose. Additionally; we have received precipitation in the form of snow but
the results only have recorded .34 inches.
Thanksgivng is
upon us and we have many things to be thankful for this year. Sometimes we lose
sight of what we have. Be thankful for living in our wonderful community of
Penrose and all those who strive to make it a better place.
Happy
Thanksgiving!
