February 2019 Update

The weather is providing us with winter snow and cold temperatures. Unfortunately with all the snow we have received this month it equaled only .25 of precipitation. The average temperature for the month was 49 degrees however we did have a couple of days of below freezing.

The upper ditch removal and relining has continued throughout the month. All together they have replaced 1500 feet of cement lining. As irrigation season nears the project will discontinue until after the season is over. The staff is busy mowing and cleaning canals in preparation for the new season.

The 2019 Annual Shareholders meeting was held Saturday, February 23rd with 62 % of the shareholders represented either in person or through proxy. This number is steadily declining. All shareholders need to be mindful if a quorum is not reached a meeting can’t take place. Any shareholders not represented will be charged $5.00 per share.  Invited guest speakers were Charlotte Norman, President of the Board of Directors at Penrose Water District who spoke of the 2020-2065 Water Service agreement that was finalized with Beaver Park Water and Penrose Water District. She also stated that due to the storage water in Brush Hollow and Pueblo Reservoir, Penrose residents have plenty of water available for the near future. Also, guest Greg Langer; NRCS’s new District Conservationist spoke of the new farm bill that provides a significant increase towards financial and technical assistance to help manage natural resources. He encouraged shareholders to contact him for more defined information. Tom Lilze gave the Superintendent’s Report that included the update on the upper canal relining project.
