May Update

Irrigation water is being delivered throughout the system. We are working with very little water coming down the creek. Typically this time of year we receive 15-20 cfs into our system, however this year we are receiving 6-9 cfs. There is no water going past the Penrose Water District water plant therefore we are not replenishing Brush Hollow Reservoir. Several situations have occurred that are causing the low creek amounts: Skaguay Reservoir is changing valves at the reservoir and has shut the gate therefore we are only receiving water from spill over, we had very little snow pack this past winter so we have no run off, the only reason we able to deliver irrigation is the fact that Brush Hollow remained full all winter. The most important thing of all is that we are classified in a drought area, very little snow this past winter and very little rain this spring has parched the land. The ditch riders are trying their best to deliver irrigation water with what we have; which means, less lines running at one time. This was done on purpose to maintain stability in the water deliveries. Several shareholders that are accustom to our regular methods of running and maintaining more heads down more lines at one time have questioned our current process and are concerned they will not be receiving water. This is not the case; we are trying to maintain what we have without over burdening the entire system causing everyone to have low heads. Please be patient, everyone is in the same situation; we are doing everything possible to provide irrigations as efficiently as we can. Rain Dances are suggested but remain optional.

Also as a reminder, the office does not know irrigation schedules. The ditch riders schedule all of the deliveries. Please contact your ditch rider for any irrigation status. If you are unable to contact your ditch rider, please call the Superintendent at 719-371-4311. Additionally, leaving a message on the office message service on weekends or after hours will not be acknowledged until the following normal scheduled work day. Any irrigation delivery matter should be taken up with your designated ditch rider or contact the superintendent. All ditch riders and superintendent carry cell phones for irrigation purposes. If they are not on duty a message will direct to a person and number that will assist you.
