March was an interesting time for Penrose. We had a scare of
fire that forced evacuations and pre-evacuations to many in Penrose.
Fortunately, no structures were lost in the evacuation areas. We are thankful
for the first responders and fire crews who worked so diligently to keep our
beautiful community from any harm.
Our weather for the month was mostly warm, windy and dry
with the exception of the AG Met sensor reporting that we received 1.17 inches
of moisture in the first week of March. Colorado has many areas that are experiencing
exceptional drought due to the lack of snow.
The Board of Directors, our Engineer and the State water
resources dam safety engineer have been working together to obtain approval for
the Engineering/Design phase for Brush Hollow Reservoir. Once the approval is
completed the next phase will be to find a contractor to actually do the work
on the dam as directed by the State Dam safety engineer. The process is slow,
but the end result will restore our ability to fill the reservoir to 93 ft and
not be restricted to 90 feet. Our engineer is working with CWCB to find grant
money for this repair as costs to complete this work are very expensive.
All share assessments are due April 1st. If not
paid those shareholders unpaid will not be put on the schedule for irrigation
water.
We did not have a “winter” in Penrose and all the trees are
bloomed out with leaves and flowers on the fruit bearing trees. Please pray for
rain for moisture rather than a spring snow storm to protect all the Fruit
bearing trees.
Always prepare for rain. Take an umbrella and jacket in your
vehicle.
