Unfortunately, Penrose did not receive much of any moisture
for the month of November (.05 prec.) and the drought rages on. The temperatures
were all over the place with high’s in the 80’s at the beginning of the month
and varied 60’s and 70’s. Towards the end of the month we were down to 40’s and
50’s for the daytime and down to the single digits at nighttime.
All the projects are completed on the upper ditch and
finalization of the new gate at the diversion is almost complete. Extra
grouting was needed to secure the dam around the gate as the bottom of the new
gate is not exactly as the old gate that was removed. A very small amount of
water was seeping down the creek once the new gate was in place. This should
subside once the diversion is filled with water and the sand washes in place. This
would be the best-case scenario. Skaguay
has shut down the release to the creek to 2.5 c.f.s. manually however the
reading is 3.23 c.f.s. to the creek.
The staff has continued to mow when possible and has started
the lower ditch mowing last week. Due to hydraulic problems with the mowers
head it is currently in the shop for repairs.
