December 2016 Update

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. We finally received SNOW and with it some extreme cold. Depending on the weather patterns we just may have a white Christmas.

 2016 a year in review

It has been a very interesting year for Beaver Park Water, with many changes and processes going on.

January began with Wilson construction replacing the culverts at Bear and KP creek crossings on the upper ditch. The replacement culvert was with a 48 inch pipe and redesigned to enable the water to flow smoothly down the canal. In addition the linings in the upper ditch were replaced in several areas where leakage and damage had occurred. During the process the water from the creek was shut off and PWD was receiving water from Brush Hollow Reservoir. Project was paid by Colorado Springs SDS program that had been granted to Beaver Park Water, Inc.

February received 10 inches of snow during the first week; however the balance of the month temperatures reached into the 70’s. Beaver Park Water Inc. held the Annual Shareholders meeting with a total of 65% of the shareholders represented either in person or by proxy. Both the minutes of 2015 and budget for 2016 were approved. Board of Directors, Butch Miller and Justin Jenkins ran unopposed and they were unanimously accepted to continue for another 3 years.

March- proved to be a very dry month with no measurable precipitation. Ditch Riders completed the cleaning of the canals to prepare for irrigation. A new ditch rider joined the staff with Ronny moving to Texas to be with his family.

April-2016 irrigation season formally began on the 11th. Brush Hollow was at 92 feet and the creek was running at 25 cfs. All looked promising until Mother Nature provided us with a surprise of rain and heavy wet snow. The canals were beginning to flood, so it was decided to shut down the system to prevent any problems. It was decided to start again on April the 25th.  The abundance of water actually worked in our favor, as we didn’t need to purchase project water this year for 2250 payback, saving us $2700.00

May- Irrigation is finally running as scheduled. We also had ditch rider changes again, Larry Feyerherm joined us to run the middle lines and Connie Johnson will be running the West lines to replace Larry Degenhart who retired after serving 10 years with us.

June- It was a busy month of running water and training two new ditch riders. Penrose did receive almost 2 inches of rain this month which is always needed.

July – Weather was hot and mostly dry. The ditch riders not only worked on delivering water but they worked on line 6B on the West side to find a blockage that prevented any water deliveries to those shareholders. After many hours of digging and replacing lines they finally found the blockage and had the line up and running again. Their efforts and dedication to this project was greatly appreciated and a big thanks to the shareholders on line 6B for their patience and understanding.

August – We received some rain in August but mostly dry. Brush Hollow was at 72.60 and the creek was running 9.82 cfs. Third irrigations will run until Brush Hollow reaches 68 feet.

September- We experienced an extremely dry month.  Forth irrigations will begin as soon as thirds are completed. Water is coming directly from the upper ditch and Brush Hollow as we are still not in priority to store water.

October-It was another dry month for Penrose. Temperatures remained in the high 80’s. Brush Hollow was at 72 ft. Brush Hollow has not been in storing priority, therefore irrigation water continues to run.

November-Irrigations were completed November 15th. Four irrigations were delivered to the majority of the shareholders. November continued to be a dry month for Penrose. We are hopeful for winter to finally arrive with snow.

Of course this is a condensed version of the year but as you can see it has been a busy one.

Merry Christmas to all

And Happy New Year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
